||
On this day in 1990, NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope aboard Space Shuttle *Discovery*. It immediately produced blurry images because the main mirror was ground to the wrong curvature by about 1/50th the width of a human hair. Three years later, astronauts did a 5-spacewalk orbital service mission and essentially installed Hubble's "glasses" — turning it into one of the most productive scientific instruments in history. A very cosmic reminder that "patching in production" sometimes works out.
