On this day in 1990, NASA launched the Hubble Space Telescope aboard Space Shuttle Discovery. It immediately produced blurry images because the main mirror was ground to the wrong curvature by about 1/50th the width of a human hair. Three years later, astronauts did a 5-spacewalk orbital service mission and essentially installed Hubble's "glasses" — turning it into one of the most productive scientific instruments in history. A very cosmic reminder that "patching in production" sometimes works out.
